Our Approach

Discipline as
Character Building

Discipline at St. John's School is not about punishment — it is about building lifelong habits of self-regulation, respect, and responsibility. We maintain a structured, orderly environment that allows every child to learn and grow without disruption, and every teacher to teach without constraint.

We believe that the habits formed at school — punctuality, honesty, respect for others, care for shared spaces — are the very habits that will define a student's character long after their school years are over. Our rules exist not to restrict, but to build.

Self-Regulation

"Discipline is not about control — it is about freedom. When a child learns self-discipline, they gain the freedom to focus, to learn, to grow, and to achieve. That is the discipline we teach at St. John's."

Student Rules

School Rules for Students

Click any rule to expand and read the full detail. All students and parents are expected to be fully familiar with these rules.

Students must speak English on school premises at all times. English is the medium of instruction and the language of communication within the school campus. This rule reinforces language proficiency and prepares students for confident, clear expression in their academic and professional futures.
No student may form groups, call meetings, organise petitions, or distribute materials on school premises without explicit permission from school authorities. The school maintains a structured, orderly environment for the benefit of all students.
Money (beyond what is needed for the day), ornaments, jewellery, and expensive personal items are not permitted on school premises. The school is not responsible for loss of valuables. Keeping the school environment simple and focused prevents unnecessary distractions and inequality among students.
Any damage caused to school property — furniture, books, equipment, laboratory instruments, or premises — must be made good by the responsible student. Deliberate damage is treated as a serious disciplinary offence and parents will be notified and held responsible for repair or replacement.
Stealing, forging signatures, submitting plagiarised work, or any act of dishonesty will be treated as a serious offence and may result in suspension or expulsion — even if the act occurred off campus but is brought to the school's attention. Integrity is non-negotiable at St. John's.
Students must conduct themselves with dignity, decorum and courtesy on their way to and from school, on school transport, and during all school-related outings. Students in uniform are representatives of St. John's School at all times, and their behaviour reflects on the institution.
Strict silence is required in the library, science laboratory, computer lab, and during morning assembly. These spaces are for focused learning and shared concentration — disruptive behaviour in these areas is treated as a serious breach of school discipline.
Habitual tardiness, repeated irregular attendance, consistent disobedience, or conduct unbecoming of an SJS student may, at the discretion of the Principal, result in suspension or removal from the school rolls. Parents will always be notified and given an opportunity to address the situation before such action is taken.
